8.07.10 | 9am to 2pm | Arise Detroit Neighborhoods Day
Alger Street Block Club Clean Up
Location: 234 Alger Street between Oakland and Woodward
Mark your calendar as we prepare to participate for the second time is city-wide event! We'll be helping the Alger Street block club, made up of mostly seniors, do a street clean up in their neighborhood. Their street is kept quite clean and trimmed, but there are some residents who need to have bushes and other brush cut down and cleaned out from the alleys behind their homes (a security issue for them). The street is four blocks long and we will get as much covered as we can.
We'll need to supplement their supply of hand and garden tools, so please consider bringing your tools: like rakes, shovels, brooms, hand trowels; as well as more heavy duty tools like pruning shears/lopers/saws, if you have them. We could always use a few more big garbage bags, too, if you please, and thank you very much. Dress appropriately. Bring your own snacks. We will have an ample supply of water, cotton work gloves, dust masks and wet wipes. We will work rain or shine.
Location Info: 234 Alger St, in the 2nd block east of Woodward. There is a pocket-park opposite the house address. Alger is about 10 blocks north of Grand Blvd, or 2 blocks south of Holbrook, and should be entered from the Woodward end of the street (it becomes an eastbound one-way the last block from Beaubien to Oakland Ave).

Want to Help Out More with Project Clean than Just Volunteering at an Event?
We are looking for people to be Event Leads, and it's a lot easier than you might think! These volunteers would take on responsibilities of coordinating an event, which includes (but may not be limited to):
1. Gathering information on an organization and/or event.
2. Making contact with volunteer coordinator of organization/event and scheduling a work date and location.
3. Advertising for event by collecting info for the DSG website and emails.
4. Recruiting volunteers.
5. Being the point person the day of the event.
If this is something you are interested in, please contact Mike at clean@detroitsynergy.org
