- Join DSG Shares at Gleaners Community Food Bank on Saturday, March 15 from 1-4 p.m. As the third-oldest food bank in the United States, Gleaners Community Food Bank's mission has been to turn surplus food, which otherwise would go to waste, into millions of delicious meals for hungry people in southeastern Michigan. Gleaners is located at 2131 Beaufait in Detroit (between Vernor and Kercheval, two blocks east of Mt. Elliot).

- Join DSG Shares at Habitat Restore on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Volunteers have the option of volunteering from 9-1, 1-5 or signing up for the whole day from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Habitat Detroit ReStore helps raise the standards of area housing by providing individuals and families an opportunity to purchase building materials and home improvement products they may not otherwise afford. By recycling materials and goods that would otherwise end up in landfills, ReStore helps preserve natural resources and reduces waste disposal costs. Habitat ReStore is located at 12630 Greenfield Road at the northeast corner of Fullerton at I-96.

- Join DSG Shares at Cass Community Social Services on Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. "CCSS is dedicated to making a profound difference in the diverse populations it serves by providing for basic needs, including affordable housing, promoting self reliance and encouraging community inclusion and improvement." DSG Shares will be meeting in CCSS's Scott Building which is located at 11850 Woodrow Wilson in Detroit. Volunteers may be providing a number of different services for the homeless in the community including sandwich preparation, creating mud mats and outdoor clean-up.

- Who/When: Join DSG Shares at the Capuchin Earthworks Garden on Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. - noon. What: The EarthWorks Garden started in 1999 as a partnership between the Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Gleaners Community Food Bank. Complete with a greenhouse, EarthWork's primary goal is the education of Detroit area school children in areas of science, nutrition and biodiversity of organic agriculture. The project also yields fresh produce to benefit such programs as WIC and the Soup Kitchen's daily meals. DSG Shares volunteers will be engaging in gardening projects to service the Earthworks garden. - Who/When: Join DSG Shares at the Salvation Army on Saturday, July 26 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. What: The Salvation Army provides a number of services to the community including disaster relief services, day care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, AIDS education and residential services, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation. More than 30 million a year are aided in some form by services provided by The Salvation Army. Where: Volunteers will meet downtown at at the Southeast Michigan Rehabilitation Center at 1627 W. Fort St. (directly across from the main post office) and will participate in activities including kitchen clean-up, field clean-up and meal preparation.

- Join DSG Shares at Canticle Cafe on Saturday, September 6 from 8:00 a.m. - noon. The Canticle Cafe is a Franciscan ministry of radical hospitality extending community beyond the margins of traditional outreach and charity. For more information about their outreach visit the Canticle Cafe on the web at: http://canticlecafe.org. Volunteers will be making up hygiene kits, serving food and coffee, bussing tables and assisting with cafe clean-up after breakfast is served. The Canticle Cafe is located at 1209 Washington Blvd. in Downtown Detroit. Volunteers can park at the lot on the corner of Washington Blvd. and State St. or along the street on Washington Blvd.

Who/When: Join DSG Shares at the Georgia Street Community Garden this Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. What: The Georgia Street Community Garden was founded on April 8, 2008 as an opportunity to provide residents with a garden and a neighborhood gathering place. The community garden also serves as a community center where residents can bring their children for a book reading every Saturday night. Volunteers will be assisting with a lot clean-up for the formation of an orchard across the street from the existing garden. Where: The Georgia Street Community Garden is located at 9344 Georgia Street between Gratiot and Van Dyke near the Better Made Potato Chip Factory.
